XX International Violin Competition “Andrea Postacchini”

The atmosphere in May 2013 in Fermo was really beyond words - you cannot resist the charm of this beautiful city on the hill. When you enter the large square your heart beats up to your mouth. The warmth of the people, the cuisine, the beauty of the churches and of the houses are simply great. When so many young people with their violin cases fill the narrow streets, the tension is palpable. A competition such as in Fermo is from many points of view unique all over the world: one hundred percent concentration on music and its fair valuation, the wonderful theater where already at the candidates appearance you perceive devotion to music and culture, and especially a perfect organization, working quietly and efficiently in the background.
I had the joy and honour once again as president of a high-ranking and artistically excellent jury to be able to listen to all the talented young musicians. The level was considerable and the decisions difficult. But the good and collegial spirit that prevails in this competition has allowed us all after all the technical discussions to enjoy in harmony the final concert. The winner Amalia Hall from New Zealand has convinced thanks to her profound technique and mature musicality. A very special joy for me were the young and youngest participants with their so virtuoso performances of a wide variety of works from a so rich violin literature.
A particular ray of light was the presentation and exhibition of new violins with the best sound and beautiful appearance, which got us all excited.
I thank all those responsible for this beautiful time in May 2013 and I send my best wishes and greetings from Vienna. Great success to competition 2014!

L'atmosfera in maggio 2013 a Fermo è stata indescrivibile - non ci si può sottrarre al fascino di questa bella città sulla collina. Quando si entra nella grande piazza il cuore batte felice fino in gola. Il calore della gente, la cucina, la bellezza delle chiese e delle case sono aspetti semplicemente magnifici. Quando così tanti giovani con le custodie dei loro violini riempiono i vicoli, la trepidazione si può toccare con mano. Un concorso come a Fermo è unico in tutto il mondo sotto vari punti di vista: la concentrazione al cento per cento sulla musica e la sua valutazione imparziale, il meraviglioso teatro dove già all’apparizione dei candidati si percepisce la dedizione alla musica e alla cultura e soprattutto la perfetta organizzazione, che agisce dietro le quinte in maniera silenziosa ed efficiente.
Ho avuto la gioia e l'onore di nuovo come presidente di una giuria di alto livello e artisticamente eccellente di poter ascoltare tutti i giovani musicisti di talento. Il livello è stato notevole e le decisioni difficili. Ma lo spirito buono e collegiale che domina in questo concorso ci ha permesso a tutti dopo tutte le discussioni tecniche di godere in armonia il concerto finale. La vincitrice Amalia Hall dalla Nuova Zelanda ha convinto per profonda tecnica e matura musicalità. Una gioia del tutto speciale per me sono stati i giovani e giovanissimi partecipanti con le loro esibizioni così virtuose delle opere più varie di una così ricca letteratura violinistica.
Un particolare raggio di luce è stata la presentazione e l'esposizione di nuovi violini con il miglior suono e ottica magnifica, che ci ha tutti entusiasmati.
Ringrazio tutti i responsabili di questo bel periodo in maggio 2013 e posso inviare i miei migliori auguri e saluti da Vienna. Ad un concorso 2014 di buon successo!

The realization of an international violin competition is a very complex event to achieve and for this reason candidates often end becoming only a cold detail in the organizational turmoil.
I want therefore to point out, in light of the experience both as participant and as jury member in different events of this kind, that in Postacchini Competition everything revolves around young talents of violin who have in Fermo the chance to give their best in a healthy competition without prejudice of any kind and nature.
All this is made possible, in my opinion, particularly thanks to the rigorous and meticulous work of the passionate organizers.
My best wishes to the "Postacchini" for its 22nd edition of great affluence and longevity.

La realizzazione di un concorso internazionale di violino è un evento molto complesso da portare a termine e per questo i candidati spesso finiscono per diventare soltanto un freddo tassello nel vortice organizzativo.
Tengo a dire quindi, con esperienza e di partecipante e di giurato in diverse manifestazioni di questo tipo, che al concorso Postacchini tutto ruota intorno ai giovani talenti del violino che in Fermo hanno la possibilità di esprimersi al meglio in una competizione sana e senza pregiudizi di alcun tipo e natura.
Il tutto è reso possibile in principal modo, a mio avviso, dalla scrupolosa meticolosità degli appassionati Organizzatori.
Un grande augurio al "Postacchini" per la sua XXII edizione di grande affluenza e longevità.

Isaac Stern many years ago said : "I don´t understand why musicians have to compete against each other". To set competitors of a music contest free of the feeling of "competition" is a very difficult task. It should be left to the jury - again difficult, because the level of mastery is very high. The organization of Postacchini competition is perfect, because the main goal is to find and support true musicians. It is hard work powered by love for art and great enthusiasm - thank God this still exists.

Isaac Stern molti anni fa ha dichiarato: "Io non capisco perché i musicisti devono competere uno contro l'altro". Per rendere i concorrenti di un concorso musicale liberi dalla sensazione di "competizione" è un compito molto difficile. Dovrebbe essere lasciato alla giuria - ancora difficile, perché il livello di bravura è molto alto. L’organizzazione del Concorso Postacchini è perfetta, perché l'obiettivo principale è quello di scoprire e sostenere dei veri musicisti. Si tratta di un duro lavoro alimentato da amore per l'arte e grande entusiasmo - grazie a Dio questo esiste ancora.

The Postacchini Competition, which has earned year after year a recognized profile of seriousness and professionalism, has welcomed participants and jurors like family, for a meeting in the name of music and violin; young and older violinists, phenomenal artists and honest students, all of them are valued as they deserve, in excellent artistic conditions and with a jury for which the Organization requires as a mission "the respect of young people and of their work".
With my colleagues we have heard everyone with enthusiasm and concentration, and we were able to establish cordial and profitable contacts with those who have performed after their executions.
An experience of great inspiration, an opportunity for growth for all.

Il Concorso Postacchini, che si è guadagnato anno dopo anno un riconosciuto profilo di serietà e professionalità, ha accolto partecipanti e giurati come in famiglia, per un incontro nel nome della musica e del violino; violinisti grandi e piccoli, fenomenali artisti ed onesti studenti, tutti vengono valorizzati come meritano, con condizioni artistiche eccellenti ed una giuria cui la Organizzazione pone come missione "il rispetto dei ragazzi e del loro lavoro".
Con i miei colleghi abbiamo ascoltato tutti con entusiasmo e concentrazione, ed abbiamo potuto stabilire cordiali e proficui contatti con coloro che hanno suonato dopo le rispettive esecuzioni.
Un'esperienza di grande ispirazione, un'occasione di crescita per tutti.

I was very happy to participate in the Postacchini Strings Competition as President of the Jury in 2017.
I would like to highlight the excellent organization of the competition, the high professional level of the jury, the talented participants and the very friendly and pleasant atmosphere during the competition.
I wish this competition also in future to be able to find wonderful and talented young musicians who will gift the audience with their splendid music making.

Sono stato molto felice di partecipare al Concorso di Violino Postacchini come Presidente della giuria nel 2017.
Vorrei sottolineare l’ottima organizzazione del concorso, l’alto livello professionale della giuria, i partecipanti pieni di talento e l'atmosfera molto amichevole e piacevole durante il concorso.
Auguro a questo concorso di essere capace anche in futuro di trovare giovani musicisti meravigliosi e pieni di talento che regalino al pubblico il loro splendido modo di fare musica.

XXV International Violin Competition “Andrea Postacchini”

The Postacchini Competition in Fermo is a most extraordinary event which takes place each year in the beautiful town of Fermo. More than one hundred and thirty violinists appeared last May to compete in all age groups from the very young to the more experienced, having the opportunity to perform and learn from each other and the judges. The fantastic young talents we heard came from all over the world, and their passion is a testament to the enduring power of classical music. Rarely have I had the pleasure to serve on a jury which was so concerned with the well-being and musical growth of all the contestants, and who listened to each performer with respect and joy. The feeling of support which runs through this competition is apparent on all levels, from the Founders and Administration, the Town, and the Judges. I wish the Postacchini Competition many more years of continued success.

Il Concorso Postacchini di Fermo è un evento davvero straordinario che si svolge ogni anno nella bellissima città di Fermo. Più di centotrenta violinisti sono apparsi lo scorso maggio per competere in tutte le fasce d'età dai giovanissimi ai più esperti, avendo l'opportunità di esibirsi e imparare gli uni dagli altri e dai giudici. I fantastici giovani talenti che abbiamo ascoltato provenivano da tutto il mondo e la loro passione è una testimonianza del potere duraturo della musica classica. Raramente ho avuto il piacere di far parte di una giuria che era così preoccupata del benessere e della crescita musicale di tutti i concorrenti, e che ascoltava ogni interprete con rispetto e gioia. La sensazione di sostegno che attraversa questa competizione è evidente a tutti i livelli, dai Fondatori e Amministrazione, la Città e i Giudici. Auguro al Concorso Postacchini molti altri anni di continuo successo.

I was President of the Jury of the 26th "Andrea Postacchini" International Violin Competition in May 2019. I remember that experience with great pleasure for the fruitful collaboration environment established between us members of the jury, for the good level of the participants and for the opportunity that I have had to personally illustrate to the public the work done by the jury I chaired. In my mind the memory of those intense days of meetings and music acquires, if possible, even greater prominence when compared with what would happen, a few months later, with the forced closures due to the Covid emergency.

Sono stata Presidente di Giuria del XXVI Concorso Violinistico Internazionale “Andrea Postacchini” nel maggio del 2019. Ricordo con grande piacere quell’esperienza per il proficuo clima di collaborazione instauratosi fra noi membri della giuria, per il buon livello dei partecipanti e per aver avuto la possibilità di illustrare, personalmente, al pubblico il lavoro svolto dalla giuria che presiedevo. Nella mia memoria il ricordo di quei giorni intensi di incontri e di musica acquisisce, se possibile, ancora maggior risalto se contrapposto a ciò che sarebbe avvenuto, di li a pochi mesi, con le chiusure forzate dovute all’emergenza Covid.

Dearest friends,
as President of the Honorable Jury of the 30th "Andrea Postacchini" International Violin Competition, I gladly express some of my thoughts.
An important Violin Competition such as the Postacchini, as well as being a major event that attracts violinists from all over the world to the city, elevates Fermo to point of stimulus and development of musical culture as well as international center for comparison between different Violin Schools and therefore precious guardian of Art in general.
Each of us present will always remember that there in the city of Fermo we meet every year for the Appointment that enriches those who participate and those who listen.
Humanity will always be enriched by the exchange and sharing of ideas and experiences and, where these peculiarities exist, especially young competitors will be increasingly more artists and more virtuous and will fortunately love more and more the art of playing violin and music.
I greet and thank all the Members of our Jury, all those who collaborated and the incredible will and professionalism of the Organizers, especially the two who are the great driving forces behind this level of excellence!!!!

quale Presidente della Onorevole Giuria del XXX Concorso Violinistico Internazionale "Andrea Postacchini" esprimo volentieri alcuni miei pensieri.
Un grande Concorso di Violino com'è il Postacchini, oltre ad essere un evento di grande rilievo che attira violinisti da qualsiasi parte del mondo in Città, eleva Fermo a punto di stimolo e di sviluppo della Cultura Musicale nonché centro internazionale di confronto tra le diverse Scuole Violinistiche e dunque prezioso custode dell'Arte in generale.
Ognuno di noi presenti, ricorderà sempre che lì nella città di Fermo ci si ritrova ogni anno per l'Appuntamento che arricchisce chi partecipa e chi ascolta.
L'Umanità sempre sarà più arricchita dallo scambio e condivisione delle idee e delle esperienze e, dove ci sono queste peculiarità, specialmente i giovani concorrenti saranno sempre più artisti e più virtuosi e ameranno per fortuna sempre di più l'arte di suonare il violino e di amare la musica.

It was a great pleasure and an honor to listen and meet, together with my wonderful colleagues as President of the Jury, so many talented violinists from many different countries at the XXXI Postacchini Competition in May 2024. The week was intensely filled not only with fantastic music, but also with many special and inspiring encounters. A big thank you to the outstanding team that organizes the Violin Competition every year in an exemplary way, making an invaluable contribution to the international musical and human exchange! The traditional city of Fermo, with its beautiful theater, is the ideal location for this event. I wish all participants and everyone involved in this violin competition much joy, inspiring experiences and interesting personal encounters!
